We met in Cambridge, Massachusetts, then moved out to California where we got married and had two of our kids. After about ten years soaking up the sunshine in Santa Monica, we decided to move back to the Boston area to raise our three kids and settled in Norwell—a quiet little town that really grew on us. Our family has grown since then—we have two grandchildren in Seattle with our oldest, while our other kids live closer to home in Boston.

We spent nearly two decades in Norwell—raising the family and making memories. But eventually, we started feeling like it was time for a change. Once our youngest headed off to college, we found ourselves in our early 50s with a bit more time to enjoy simple pleasures like bike rides, quick trips to the Cape, and Scott heading out to fish whenever he got the chance. At the same time, we started thinking seriously about what might come next.

Our Story

Watching lots of YouTube videos about folks traveling slowly and living differently got us thinking about what we wanted. We even looked into buying a home abroad—Portugal caught our eye, and we visited with the idea of maybe settling there someday. It was beautiful, but it didn’t quite feel like home. Then we checked out some warmer, more affordable places closer to the U.S., thinking about how travel could fit into our retirement plans. But none of those options quite clicked.

That’s when the idea of slow travel really took hold—living in new places for a while, soaking it all in, and making the world feel like home. After plenty of talking and planning, we sold the house, packed up what we needed, and took the plunge to see if this lifestyle could really work.

Right now, we’re in France on a long-stay visa, loving the chance to move around, discover new places, and enjoy morning walks in neighborhoods that are still new to us. We’re learning as we go and sharing it, hoping it helps someone else see retirement in a new way.

Born and raised in Brockton, Massachusetts, Scott’s all about good food, strong coffee, and saying yes to whatever adventure feels right—especially if it starts with a sunrise, ends with a cold beer, and includes a slow cast off a jetty somewhere in between.

He’s got a knack for finding the perfect local cocktail, the coziest corner café, and the best seat to watch the world wind down.

Scott notices the little things that make a place—or a moment—worth remembering. Whether he’s wandering a new city, stretching out by the water, or getting completely sidetracked by something interesting, he brings quick wit humor, heart, and a sense of ease to the journey.

Liza

Liza’s idea of adventure isn’t just about the destination—it’s about the experience, the people, and the stories along the way. Born in Los Angeles and raised in Miami, she’s curious about how others live, never afraid to speak a new language, and always looking for ways to connect with people wherever she goes.

Liza is notoriously the keeper of the budget, always finding ways to stretch a dollar without missing out on the good stuff. But don’t be fooled—she’s also the first one to head to the casino for a little fun and maybe a lucky streak.

Whether she’s stretched out on a beach or curled up by the fire with a book, Liza’s all in. She shows up, she soaks it in, and she makes sure there’s joy in the journey.
